Behind the Razor wire

There's something that happens to a person when they become a correctional officer, or anyone who works in that environment and often those changes aren't immediate, and lets face it working in a prison will test your resolve and patience and that often spills over into your personal life creating stresses on any relationship outside of the workplace. Incarceration has been around for a long time, and networks of schemes and scams tricks and games have had plenty of time to perfect themselves into a formidable web of actions by snitching, dropping notes and planting contraband that can give a "free world" person, a term used for anyone who lives in the free world ; the blues.
Often officers and staff personnel are caught up in situations whereby one can be benefited financially by bringing into prison by whatever means available, contraband like cell phones, drugs, which are most common. Alcohol on the other hand is available in most prisons, made possible by yeast from the kitchen, and any ferment-able sugar base substance, apple, orange potato, or any number of things. But getting back to the unpleasantness of dealing with inmates who could just as soon watch you bleed to death from a beating or stabbing without so much as a passing glance. Fights among inmates are common, and fight with officers is also common given the treatment some officers dish out. Its like a dare of who is the toughest where the inmate always loses. They may get their licks in the beginning, but woe be unto them when they get to lockup. I have watched as officers deliberately provoked confrontations only to have to give the ten-double zero officer needs assistance call over the radio because he miscalculated an inmate's determination to whip his ass. Some officers who are friendly with inmates and often are seen "kicking the bobo" or interacting are often seen as easy marks for use or distraction by "hot rails" who watch while other inmates move contraband throughout the camp. I have thrown some definitions and terms We use daily where I work and even with the serious side of my job, there are humorous and often comical insistences that can make my job interesting... We explore soon the mind of a serial killer, a child molester, and a 16 year old given life without........for shooting his best friend..
